Whether it’s Bach or rock, dramatic or romantic, action or comedy, human or alien, sinister or divine, our cinematic adventures require a composer to undertake diverse musical genres and themes with tremendous flexibility and imaginative creativity that ventures far beyond what is expected. For every budget and deadline, Jonathan consistently delivers that and more with prominence, artistry and finesse. Jonathan grew up on the coast of California near San Luis Obispo. His first love of music was the score for Star Wars IV and inspired him to learn those themes by wearing out the cassette and figuring the notes out by ear on the piano, and then the recorder. His first performance was in the third grade when he performed for his class the entire opening title of Star Wars. After years of learning scores, at the age of 19, while being a jet engine technician in the Air Force, Jonathan began playing guitar by ear again, and loved jamming with Van Halen, Led Zepplin and Boston. Now that he could play guitar and piano, he needed to record this stuff, which started him on his path audio engineering. Jonathan moved to LA and started his company Space Between the Notes,LLC, quickly landing a gig composing music for trailers, and simultaneously doing audio post for films. Jonathan has developed a stylized technique for composing underscore that musically and emotionally expresses from “inside” the scene, rather than one that objectively describes the scene. His specialty is to emotionally articulate the sound and feeling of a story, to reach deeply into the hearts of the listeners and take them on the precise journey the story dictates. As a sound designer and engineer, Jonathan’s music is seamlessly infused and integrated into a picture’s cinematography, sound FX, picture editing and most importantly, the underlying rhythm and texture of the dialog. Jonathan plays the piano, 6 and 12-string guitars, bass and the Zarkoff Tonal Manipulator. His orchestral mock-ups are usually mistaken for “real” orchestral performances, and are an invaluable asset to directors, producers, and editors. His studio utilizes state-of-the-art technology and the highest quality components for the seamless integration with any post-production studio. Jonathan is founder of Space Between the Notes, LLC, a company designed to bring music that advances consciousness into the world in support of humanity, nature and feminine leadership. Jonathan has projects developing in Tunisia and South Africa to support health and well being of Africa. He currently resides in Pacific Palisades, CA.
